Behaviour management

School wide positive behaviour support (SWPBS)

SWPBS is a process for teaching expected social, emotional and behavioural skills so the focus in our classrooms can be on teaching and learning. SWPBS outlines expectations for all students, staff and settings in our school.

The SWPBS process has changed the social culture of our school through decreases in office discipline referrals and an increase in positive school tone evidenced by student parent and staff satisfaction levels.

There are five school wide expectations

1. Be courteous

This means:

• Using good manners and asking permission to use the property of others

• Speaking politely to everyone, no “put downs”

• Not swearing

• No play fighting, tackling or games which could result in injuries or hurt feelings

2. Be respectful

This means:

• Listening to and following teacher instructions

• Following classroom rules and routines

• Staying on task

• Participating in all learning activities

3. Be prepared

This means:

• Being ready to begin work

• Attempting all homework given

• Being prompt to rooms after breaks

4. Be responsible

This means:

• Being clean and tidy in appearance and wearing school uniforms

• Eating healthy and nutritious food

• Ensuring adequate rest prior to school

• Leaving valuable and precious toys at home (remember that personal property is your responsibility)

5. Be environmentally aware
